Safe Space Hideout was started out of personal experience and the need we see with the constant abuse and death numbers of women and children which keep rising.
After much personal healing and going through my own journey, I saw the massive gap in support and lack of access when it comes to the Gender Based Violence, Domestic Violence, and Femicide industry. I also did a bit of research asking women who have also gone through this or are currently going through this tragedy to tell me what it is exactly that they need!

The results were...read on for yourself and you decide:
Right from the reporting, women are having issues being taken seriously and feeling safe.
Some laws are in place but the implementation of said laws, meant to be helpful to women who need to be kept away from their abusers, is nothing to write home about.
Resources are not readily available, making it hard for women to even know where to get help should they find themselves in this dire situation.
Awareness is not even something to speak of, many communities do not have access to the information that would make them informed enough communities to take action or even recognize and know what to do when one of their own is in harm’s way.
That is not even the worst of it.
My point is that there is a lot of work which still needs to be done. Our women and children are living in fear of when the next attack will come, and if it could possibly be the last...
Due to these harsh realities, I saw an immediate need to do something, hence the birth of Safe Space Hideout. There have been constant roadblocks but I will never forget what my Honours Community Psychology professor said to me (It’s almost a mantra), “Celebrate the small wins!”
So I am grateful to have been able to even start this organization, I am grateful for the persistence I have in knocking on every single door relentlessly turning those No’s into Yes’s, I am grateful in 2022 we finally became recognized as a Public Benefit Organization (yay corporate sponsors that can get their tax cut for helping our cause), I am also extremely grateful to friends reaching out to their own networks in order to raise funds and support the organization since its inception!
I have no doubt that we will have more wins to celebrate in this new year, more lives we will have changed, and more support to speak of so that we can continue to expand, make more people aware, provide more resources, run more programs, and make a difference n the rising numbers of GBV cases.
Thank you to each and every person who has had a hand in making this journey possible, and thank you for choosing Safe Space Hideout.
We look forward to more milestones with you as our partner on this journey to creating the change & taking inspired action! We are truly grateful.
